Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) will bring the alleged solvers and other members of the gang involved in the NEET re-examination fraud to Patna on Thursday for custodial interrogation.Investigators are expected to question the accused on the alleged tampering of admit cards, the money involved in the deal, the creation of biometric attendance records and the communication links between candidates, impersonators and middlemen. The questioning will be based on digital evidence collected during the probe, officials said.Sources in the EOU said the agency secured remand of the accused from the Lakhisarai chief judicial magistrate’s (CJM) court in connection with a case registered at Kavaiya police station on June 21. The case pertains to alleged impersonation during the NEET re-examination conducted at KRK High School in Lakhisarai.According to EOU sources, 30 people, including 12 medical and 18 biometric staff members, have been arrested so far. Of them, nine medical students allegedly acted as impersonators by appearing in the examination on behalf of original candidates. They said the network has links to at least eight states and further investigation is underway. The fraud was allegedly attempted at three examination centres in Lakhisarai district—Kendriya Vidyalaya Khagaul, High School Hasanpur and KRK High School. Students from medical colleges were allegedly recruited to write the examination in place of genuine candidates. Three FIRs have been lodged by Lakhisarai police, including one at Kiul police station and two at Kavaiya police station. As part of the probe, EOU teams are examining the academic and admission records of the accused students. Officials visited Pawapuri Medical College in Nalanda on Tuesday and scrutinised documents related to enrolment and academic performance. The agency is now focusing on identifying those who arranged the impersonators, tracing money trails and determining whether similar attempts were made at other examination centres. Investigators believe further revelations may emerge during the custodial interrogation scheduled in Patna.
