New Delhi: A 12-year-old girl died after a DTC bus hit her in east Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar on Friday. Police have apprehended the bus driver.The accident triggered commotion at the spot for a brief while when residents and commuters allegedly vandalised the bus. Visuals of the spot showed the windscreen was damaged.The girl, Kayna Pal of Khichripur, was a Class VIII student in a Vasundhara Enclave private school. Around 8 am, she was on her way to school for Independence Day celebrations, riding pillion on her uncle’s scooter when the bus hit them. The girl was declared dead on the spot. The uncle was injured.The driver, SK Murad (45), initially fled the spot and was caught by police later. The police are questioning him and examining the circumstances that led to the collision.DTC has not spoken about the fatal accident yet.Aman Pal, Kayna’s father, told the media that he got a phone call from his sister informing him about the accident. “I rushed to the spot and found my brother injured and my daughter dead,” he said. He alleged that the bus was coming from the opposite direction and the scooter was being ridden properly in its lane.“The driver was either trying to overtake another vehicle or I don’t know what happened, but he entered the wrong lane and hit the two-wheeler. My brother fell to one side, while my daughter was crushed under the wheels,” he said.Aman said Kayna was a bright student and had recently participated in a quiz competition, in which she won a tablet.DTC’s response was awaited.In another incident, a man died after being hit by a vehicle in a suspected hit-and-run case in southwest Delhi’s Najafgarh on Friday. “The deceased is yet to be identified. We found a hospital slip in his pocket. Tyre marks were also found at the spot, and we suspect that he was hit by a heavy vehicle,” police said.
