NEW DELHI: The number of polling stations in Delhi has increased to 14,947 from 13,033 after rationalisation under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.The number of polling-station locations in the city, which has 70 Assembly constituencies, has also risen from 2,696 to 2,856, according to a statement issued by the Delhi chief electoral officer (CEO) on Monday.The rationalisation was carried out in view of the Election Commission’s (EC) decision to reduce the limit of electors per polling station from 1,500 to 1,200, keeping voters’ convenience in mind, news agency PTI reported.Following the rationalisation, North East Delhi district has the highest number of polling stations, with 1,829 stations across 321 locations.New Delhi has the least number of polling stations among the 13 districts in the national capital, at 214.Under the SIR exercise, more than 47 lakh voters out of 1.45 crore are set to be removed from the draft electoral rolls to be published on August 31.The enumeration forms of these voters were marked “uncollectable” during the door-to-door verification exercise that concluded on August 17.(With agency inputs)
