Madhubani: The urban development and housing department (UDHD) has approved Rs 2.33 crore for the construction of a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and a compost pit in Madhubani town. The project aims to modernise solid waste management and strengthen the town’s cleanliness infrastructure.District magistrate (DM) Anand Sharma announced the development while addressing mediapersons at a function organised by Madhubani Nagar Nigam at the collectorate conference hall on Wednesday.He said the project had received top priority from the district administration and that he had personally monitored its progress. Sharma coordinated with the Nagar Nigam and other departments and maintained regular follow-up with the state urban development department, which ultimately led to the sanction. “This is not just a financial approval but a major milestone in the planned urban development of Madhubani,” the DM said.Once completed, the facility will enable scientific segregation of dry and wet waste, recycling of recoverable materials and production of compost from organic waste. The initiative is expected to significantly improve waste disposal practices, environmental protection and pollution control, while advancing the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban).According to the approved plan, around eight acres of land will be allocated for the project. The MRF and compost pit for the six urban local bodies in Madhubani district will be developed in two clusters. Madhubani Nagar Nigam has been included in the first cluster along with the Nagar Panchayats of Benipatti and Jainagar.The district administration has expressed its commitment to ensuring the project’s timely and quality execution. Officials said that, upon completion, the facility would help position Madhubani as a model for modern solid waste management in Bihar and contribute to its emergence as a clean, green and sustainable city. Sharma thanked the UDHD, Madhubani civic body and all officials associated with the project for their cooperation.
