Pune: A 59-year-old estate agent from Warje Malwadi was abducted from Pune and killed in Sangli following a dispute over messages he had allegedly sent to a woman, police said.The accused, after killing the victim, dumped his body in the Tembhu canal at Kadegaon in Sangli district, about 180km from Pune, on Aug 10. The Kadegaon police arrested the accused and handed them over to the Ambegaon police.Assistant inspector Bhojling Dodmise of the Ambegaon police told TOI that a 28-year-old Ambegaon resident suspected that the victim was harassing his wife by sending her messages. Furious over this, he allegedly decided to teach the victim a lesson.“On Aug 9, the victim returned home after having dinner with his friends. Around 2am on Aug 10, he received a call and left home on his motorcycle, telling his family that he was going out with friends. However, he did not return,” Dodmise said.“When the victim did not return home the next day, his son lodged a missing person complaint with the Nanded City police on Aug 11,” he added.The officer said on Aug 12, the Sangli police received information about a quarrel near a horse stable in Shamraonagar. Police reached the spot and detained three people.“During questioning, the trio allegedly confessed to abducting a person from Pune and killing him. They also informed the police that they had dumped the body in the Tembhu canal,” the officer said.Dodmise said the Sangli police traced the body, which was later identified by the victim’s son. The police then alerted the Pune city police about the incident.“We recovered CCTV footage, which showed that the accused had abducted the estate agent from the Ambegaon area. They abandoned his motorcycle in Katraj and took him to Sangli, where they murdered him. They then dumped his body in the canal,” Dodmise said.The officer said the arrested accused work as cab drivers. “Our investigation is on,” he said.
