Patna: Jan Suraaj founder and Bankipur MLA Prashant Kishor on Saturday met the family of Roshan Yadav, who died in judicial custody, and Madhubani SSP Yogendra Kumar, demanding action within 10 days against officials found responsible for alleged illegal detention and torture.Kishor said the family alleged Rahika police picked up Roshan on May 27 and kept him at the police station for three days without informing them in writing. “The family says that when they met him at Rahika police station on May 30, Roshan told them that he had been beaten and subjected to electric shocks,” Kishor said.Police released Roshan on May 31 morning but arrested him again within half an hour, Kishor said. He was later produced in court and booked under the Arms Act before being lodged in Mandal Jail. The family alleged he was assaulted at the police station and in jail, leading to his death after more than two months in custody.“There are two versions. The police and administration say that Roshan died by suicide, while the family says that his death was caused by assault,” Kishor said, adding that the postmortem report was expected in two to three days.He said the SSP had assured him that the allegations would be investigated within 10 days and accountability fixed by Aug 25. “If action is not taken, I will return after 10 days and meet the SSP again,” Kishor said.
