New Delhi: AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal Wednesday alleged that the arrest of Satyendar Jain was carried out “under political pressure”.However, chief minister Rekha Gupta said Jain was involved in a “scam” in Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and that investigating agencies were doing their job.Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra said AAP functionaries were playing the political victim card when “when investigations and arrests are taking place in connection with their misdeeds in Delhi”. DJB was the “biggest centre of financial irregularities” under the erstwhile Kejriwal govt, he said, adding, “when the complete investigation report comes out, Kejriwal himself may possibly go to jail.”Earlier in the day, the AAP chief posted on X, “An ACB official revealed — ACB had no plan until (Tuesday) morning to arrest Jain. Then in the afternoon, a direct call came… to arrest him.” He wrote in another post, “A person is arrested when police need to question and investigate that person. Police did not even take Jain into custody. This means they do not have to question him.”AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said the arrest of Jain, AAP’s Punjab unit co-in-charge, was “an act of panic amid BJP’s expected defeat” in the 2027 assembly elections. “BJP wants to suppress AAP and win the Punjab polls by using every means at its disposal,” he claimed.Rubbishing the claim, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said: “AAP told the same story on May 30, 2022, when they claimed that Jain was arrested (then) because he was the party in charge for Himachal Pradesh polls. In that elections, AAP received just 1% of the votes and won zero seats. It faces a similar fate in Punjab in 2027 as the ‘game of loot’ is on there.”BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said regardless of what AAP functionaries claim, “concrete evidence of corruption and money trail have already emerged”.
