NEW DELHI: A 67-year-old man was allegedly trapped through a fake dating app profile, robbed of his mobile phone during a meeting and then cheated of Rs 1.30 lakh from his bank accounts, with Delhi Police arresting two women in connection with the case.The accused, identified as Jyotsna, 26, and Manshi, 21, allegedly used a fictitious dating profile to befriend the complainant before meeting him in Defence Colony, police said on Wednesday.According to police, the man first connected with a woman on a dating app and later shifted the conversation to a messaging platform. He eventually met the woman and her associate at a restaurant in Defence Colony.“On July 24, the complainant met both women at a restaurant in Defence Colony and had dinner with them. While leaving the restaurant, his mobile phone was allegedly stolen,” a senior police officer said.After the phone was allegedly stolen, Rs 1.30 lakh was transferred through UPI from the victim’s two bank accounts without his consent, police said.An e-FIR was registered at the southwest district cyber police station on July 25.Investigators followed the money trail along with CCTV footage and technical inputs.Police also examined KYC documents, account opening forms, bank statements and transaction records linked to the beneficiary accounts.“The probe revealed that the cheated money was first transferred to an account maintained in the name of one accused and subsequently moved to another account belonging to her associate. Of the amount, Rs 90,000 was withdrawn through an ATM,” the officer said.CCTV footage allegedly showed two women withdrawing the money, helping investigators narrow down the suspects.Technical surveillance and analysis of the transactions subsequently helped police trace them.Police said Jyotsna had created and operated the fake dating profile and initiated contact with the complainant.Manshi allegedly met him while posing as the woman behind the profile, leading him to believe she was the same person he had interacted with online.The investigation further found that the women had met the complainant on July 20 and again on July 24. During the second meeting, his phone was allegedly taken and later destroyed by the accused to remove evidence, police said.Two mobile phones have been recovered from the accused.
