Police say several bids were made to kill farmer in Kanjhawala

New Delhi: Five men, multiple failed attempts and a 22-year-old revenge plot are what culminated in the murder of a farmer in northwest Delhi’s Kanjhawala.Police said the murder of Deepak Dabas — he was crushed under an SUV — was part of a conspiracy. Police have arrested all five accused in the case, including the alleged main conspirator, Pawan alias Jagpal Dabas (45), Wednesday. The conspiracy to kill Deepak took root 22 years ago after he allegedly molested Jagpal’s sister.DCP (Rohini) Shashank Jaiswal said: “Deepak, a farmer in Majra Dabas village, was killed on July 16 after a Scorpio SUV rammed into his scooter near Chandpur Majra Road in Kanjhawala. Initially, the case was registered as a fatal road accident. However, his family suspected foul play, prompting a detailed probe by a joint team of Kanjhawala police and the Rohini district special staff.”Police uncovered several earlier attempts to kill Deepak. They said that in Feb, someone opened fire outside Deepak’s brother’s home. On July 2, a Hyundai i10 rammed into Deepak’s scooter in Majra Dabas. Deepak’s 14-year-old son was with him at the time. Police got a breakthrough after the arrest of Sagar Kala (30) on July 17. Sagar allegedly admitted that the July 2 collision had been planned to kill Deepak. Police have found the Scorpio allegedly used on July 16 as well as the Hyundai i10 from co-accused Atul (30), who was also arrested.Investigators also arrested Sahil (23) for allegedly harbouring Jagpal and attempting to destroy evidence. Prince alias Tilli (24) was arrested for allegedly arranging for the SUV.
