Bettiah: Unidentified assailants shot at a jewellery shopowner, Govind Sah, here late on Monday evening.Sah, a resident of Garbhua village under Sirisia police station, was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bettiah, where he is undergoing treatment. His condition was stated to be critical.According to his family members, Sah was returning home on his motorcycle after closing his shop in Manua Pul area. While he was on his way to Garbhua, unidentified assailants allegedly lying in wait opened fire at him. A bullet hit him in the chest, causing him to fall on the road with serious injuries.On hearing the gunshots, local residents rushed to the spot. Sah’s family members also reached the location and, with the help of locals, took him to the GMCH.A police team reached the spot after being informed and launched an investigation.Bettiah Sadar SDPO Ajit Kumar said on Tuesday that police had searched the area around the crime scene and were examining CCTV footage from nearby cameras to identify the assailants. Investigators were also trying to ascertain the motive behind the attack and the number of people involved in the crime.Police are probing various possibilities, including an old dispute and an attempted robbery, among other angles. The motive behind the shooting has not yet been established.The SDPO said raids were being conducted to arrest the accused and further action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
