Patna: A bus driver died and around two dozen passengers sustained injuries after two passenger buses collided head-on on NH-22 near Bedaul Tola in Gopalpur area of Muzaffarpur district on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Ajit Sharma alias Ajit Kumar, driver of a Girija Travels bus. Police said his body remained trapped in the steering cabin for nearly 20 minutes after the collision.According to police, one bus was travelling from Sitamarhi to Muzaffarpur while the other was heading towards Sitamarhi from Muzaffarpur when the accident occurred.On receiving information, local residents and police rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. The driver’s body was extricated by cutting through the damaged bus using a JCB machine and cutter equipment before being sent to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) for post-mortem examination.Police said around 15 injured passengers were taken to a nearby primary health centre for treatment, while those with serious injuries, including Ranjit Sahni, Rekha Devi and Kameshwar Ram, were admitted to SKMCH. The exact cause of the accident is being investigated.
