Centre clears 9 urban projects worth Rs 427 crore for Buxar

Buxar: In a major boost to the urban development of Buxar, all nine projects proposed by the Buxar Nagar Parishad under the Centre’s Urban Challenge Scheme have been approved for funding through the Urban Challenge Fund. The projects, with a combined estimated cost of Rs427 crore, aim to transform the town’s tourism, transport and civic infrastructure.The Centre had announced the Rs 1-lakh crore Urban Challenge Fund in the Union Budget 2025-26 to support innovative urban infrastructure projects. The Union cabinet approved the scheme in Feb 2026. Buxar Nagar Parishad prepared a comprehensive development plan and submitted nine proposals, all of which were selected despite competition from cities across the country.The approved projects include a floating restaurant, boating facilities and tourism infrastructure along the Ganga (Rs 22 crore); a multipurpose commercial complex (Rs 58 crore); a multi-level smart parking facility (Rs 28 crore); a multimodal transport hub (Rs 24 crore); a modern multi-level bus terminal (Rs 65 crore); a hotel-cum-commercial complex (Rs 40 crore); a multi-storey shopping complex with parking (Rs 42 crore); an eco-park and vending zone (Rs 28 crore); and an Integrated Command and Control Centre (Rs 120 crore).The projects are expected to improve tourism, trade, transport infrastructure and public amenities, while generating employment and strengthening the Nagar Parishad’s revenue base, said Baban Singh, a ward councillor and member of the Nagar Parishad’s Empowered Committee.
