The border between Pakistan and Afghanistan has erupted into open conflict yet again. Following a deadly weekend fidayeen assault on the Pakistan Rangers’ headquarters in Karachi by TTP splinter group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, Islamabad bypassed all diplomatic channels to authorize deep-penetration cross-border airstrikes. Deploying high-altitude precision fighter jets and ground forces into Khost, Paktika, and Nangarhar, the Pakistan Air Force reportedly eliminated dozens of militants. However, the Taliban government in Kabul has fiercely slammed the operation as a “cowardly act of aggression” against civilians, warning that its conventional artillery commands are preparing a calculated military response.
