Sasaram: A 55-year-old worker was allegedly shot and injured by a fellow villager after he went to work for another employer at Yogia village under Dinara police station area of Rohtas district on Wednesday morning, triggering widespread violence and tension in the locality. The accused allegedly fled with the victim, Chandreshwar Chaudhary, in an SUV, while an enraged mob later set his house on fire and pelted stones at police personnel.According to police, Chaudhary was allegedly called to the residence of fellow villager Ajit Tiwari, where the shooting took place. After the incident, the accused allegedly escaped in an SUV, taking the injured worker along. Till the filing of this report, police had neither traced the accused nor located the victim.Enraged over the incident, hundreds of villagers gathered at the spot, and the situation soon turned violent. In the presence of police personnel, the mob allegedly torched the accused’s house. Tractors, a harvester and household belongings parked on the premises were also set ablaze, causing extensive damage.Police personnel who reached the village to restore order allegedly came under attack as the agitated crowd pelted stones at them. Senior officers, including the Bikramganj SDPO, rushed to the spot with reinforcements from several police stations and brought the situation under control.Rohtas SP Roshan Kumar later visited the village to assess the situation and supervise the investigation. However, till around 2pm, police had neither arrested the accused nor found the victim.During the investigation, police recovered a rifle from the spot, indicating that a firearm had been used in the incident. Heavy police deployment has been made in the village as tension continues to prevail. “Police have launched a massive search operation to trace both the accused and the victim. The motive behind the shooting is yet to be established, and further investigation is underway,” the SP said.
