Three minor brothers drown while fishing in Purnia pond

Patna: Three minor brothers drowned in a water-filled pit in Purnia district on Sunday morning while fishing with a net. The incident took place in Ward-7 of Alam Nagar under Kullakhas panchayat in the Kasba police station area.Four brothers had gone to a pond near a godown behind Khagjana to catch fish. While fishing, one of them started drowning in a deep spot. Two others jumped in to save him but also got trapped. The fourth brother, 7-year-old Ali Hussain, ran back to the village to inform the family. By the time villagers and family members reached the spot, the three boys had drowned.With the help of locals, the bodies were pulled out of the pond and brought to the village, where they were declared dead.The deceased were identified as 12-year-old Md Mofizul, 10-year-old Tafizul and 8-year-old Serajul, sons of Md Alamgir.Alamgir said, “The children were initially playing near their house around 8 am in the morning. But while playing they reached near a ‘dharm-kanta’ about 100 metres of the house and fell into the pit, leading to their deaths.”He alleged that the pit had been dug to extract soil.Kasba police reached the spot after receiving information and sent the bodies for post-mortem at Purnia Medical College Hospital.Kasba circle officer Nishant Kumar said an official had been sent to the spot for compensation to the bereaved family.
