Gaya: Investigators are examining cellphone records and other scientific evidence to determine whether anyone besides the arrested driver was involved in the murder of Dehri executive officer Vimal Kumar, who was killed in Aurangabad district while travelling to Patna on Aug 2.The victim’s driver, Mithilesh Kumar, has already been arrested in connection with the case and has confessed before the police. However, investigators are continuing to probe whether more people were involved in the crime.According to police sources, investigators are scrutinising active phone numbers in and around the crime scene to identify anyone who may have been present at the location when the officer was killed.Confirming that scientific methods were being used in the investigation, Magadh Range IG Vikas Vaibhav said it would not be appropriate to disclose details of the investigative process as the probe was still underway.Responding to reports that robbery could have been a motive and that the officer was allegedly carrying a large amount of cash, the IG said all possible angles were being examined. However, he cautioned against drawing conclusions without evidence. “All aspects are within the ambit of investigation, but nothing definite can be said at this stage,” he said.The IG also addressed reports that the victim’s widow, Babita Kumari, had accused Dehri MLA Rajiv Ranjan Singh of harassment and extortion. He said no such allegation had been made in the written statement submitted by her to the police.Refusing to comment on remarks made by political leaders, including Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, Vaibhav said the police were focused on conducting a fair and impartial investigation. He added that several non-political organisations had submitted petitions seeking a fair probe and expressed confidence in the ongoing investigation.Police officials said further details would emerge as the investigation progresses.
