Bhagalpur: Three youths riding a motorcycle died after being hit by a speeding bus on Bhagalpur bypass-Kajraili road under Bypass police station area late Saturday night. The three were not wearing helmets.On receiving information, a police team reached the spot and rushed the three youths to the emergency ward of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH). One of them died at the spot, while the other two succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, police said.The deceased were identified as Ashutosh (18), Sawan Kumar (18) and Anshu Kumar Yadav (17). All three were childhood friends and residents of Aliganj locality under Babarganj police station area. They had left their homes between 6pm and 7pm, and their families were informed about the accident around 11.30pm.Police sources said the accident might have occurred when the bus, which was allegedly speeding, was overtaking the motorcycle. The motorcycle was also reportedly being ridden at high speed. The bus driver fled the spot after the accident, leaving the vehicle behind. Police seized the bus and the motorcycle.Family members told the police that they were unaware of the exact time the youths had left home. They later learnt that the three were together and had taken one of their motorcycles.Raghuvir, Sawan’s brother, said the family received a call from a Bypass police station official around 11pm informing them that Sawan and his friends had met with an accident and had been admitted to Mayaganj Hospital. “We rushed to JLNMCH, but by then my brother and his two friends had died,” he said.Police, quoting doctors at JLNMCH, said all three had suffered severe head injuries. Initial police investigation also indicated that none of them was wearing a helmet.SHO Bypass police station Vikas Kumar said on Sunday that all three youths died in the accident. Postmortem was conducted on Sunday and the bodies were handed over to their families. SHO Traffic Bhanu Kumar, who is investigating the case, said the initial investigation indicated that the youths were not wearing helmets. Further investigation is underway.
