Patna: Bihar Police arrested over 68,000 accused, busted 14 illegal gun factories and seized firearms, narcotics and over 6.57 lakh litres of illicit liquor during a statewide anti-crime drive, officials said on Monday.Police said 68,324 accused, including 2,551 notorious criminals and 10 extremists, were arrested between June and July. The crackdown led to the seizure of 710 firearms, 3,061 rounds of ammunition and the dismantling of 14 illegal mini gun factories.ADG (law and order) K Suhita Anupam said 23,958 wanted accused involved in serious crimes were arrested between June and Aug, including 1,270 murder accused, 214 dacoits, 473 robbery accused and 827 accused involved in attacks on police personnel. Police recovered 914 firearms and 3,779 cartridges during the period.A special drive against absconders and wanted criminals from Aug 12 to 14 led to the arrest of 1,435 accused, including 79 wanted in murder cases, six in dacoity cases, 28 in robbery cases and 15 in rape cases. Police also seized 26 firearms and 195 cartridges.Police checked 1.81 lakh vehicles between June and Aug, took action against 18,180 vehicles and collected fines of Rs 2.47 crore. They also arrested 2,035 wanted accused and executed 1,008 warrants.A statewide attachment drive from July 11 to 20 saw execution of 5,009 attachment orders, while preventive policing resulted in over 2.38 lakh actions under Section 126 and more than 67,000 under Section 135.Anupam said a campaign is underway to confiscate illegally acquired assets of criminals. “More than 4,000 criminals have been identified and the process of confiscating their illegal properties has begun. Proposals have been received from all districts,” she said, adding that cases involving around 800 criminals have already been moved to courts.She said sand and land mafias were also being identified and action against them, including property confiscation, was being fast-tracked.The anti-narcotics and anti-liquor drive led to the seizure of 2.309 kg heroin, 6,728.648 kg cannabis and over 6.57 lakh litres of illicit liquor. Police also recovered over Rs 3.02 crore in Indian currency, Rs 46.12 lakh in Nepalese currency, 333g gold, 1.283kg silver and counterfeit notes worth Rs 1.38 crore.Meanwhile, Bihar Police plans to set up 49 riot-control companies across districts and subdivisions. ADG (headquarters) Jitendra Kumar said the units, backed by 294 vehicles, would be capable of responding to riots and violent incidents within 20 minutes of receiving information.
