Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) intensified its property tax recovery campaign on Sunday, collecting Rs10.23lakhfrom208propertyowners through a special drive that included door-to-door visits to defaulters and the opening of tax counters across all six municipal circles.According to PMC, the NewCapitalcircle recorded the highest collection, recovering Rs2.81lakhfrom40properties. It was followed by Patliputracircle, which collected Rs2.54lakhfrom67properties, and Kankarbaghcircle, which recovered Rs1.94lakhfrom41properties.Apart from recovering pending dues, the civic body also focused on expanding the property tax base and correcting assessment records. During the drive, around 50propertiesunderwentfreshtaxassessment, while 15propertyownersoptedforself-reassessment. Officials said discrepancies were detected in two properties, following which reassessment was carried out and penalties imposed as per rules.PMC teams are currently visiting defaulters and urging them to clear outstanding dues by Sept30. Civic officials warned that a 1.5%monthlypenalty will be levied on unpaid property tax from Oct1.To facilitate payments, PMC has provided QR codes for online transactions and directed field personnel not to accept cash. Property owners wishing to pay in cash have been asked to do so only at authorised tax counters.The civic body will launch a physical verification drive from Oct 1. Officials said any property found without tax assessment will be brought under the tax net and subjected to a 100%penalty in accordance with municipal rules.
