PMC activates 19 quick response teams ahead of monsoon

Patna: Ahead of monsoon, Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has activated 19 Quick Response Teams (QRTs) across the city to ensure swift action against waterlogging and drainage-related issues during heavy rainfall.Reviewing monsoon preparedness at a meeting held here on Wednesday, municipal commissioner Yashpal Meena directed all QRTs to maintain continuous surveillance over identified vulnerable locations and respond immediately once rainfall begins. Officials were instructed to regularly inspect manholes, catch pits and slabs in their respective areas and promptly report any damage, blockage or obstruction to the authorities concerned.Meena stressed that the teams must be deployed in the field without delay during rainfall to ensure smooth drainage and prevent water accumulation. To improve mobility and response time, each QRT will be provided a dedicated vehicle, enabling members to patrol assigned zones, monitor drainage operations and take corrective measures wherever required. The PMC has divided its 75 wards into 19 zones, with each zone assigned a QRT comprising one zonal inspector and two sanitation workers. The teams have been equipped with raincoats, torches, gloves and other safety gear for round-the-clock operations during adverse weather conditions. The civic body has also directed coordination among QRTs and drainage pumping stations, major drains, pump sets and operating staff to ensure uninterrupted water discharge during rainfall.According to the zone-wise deployment plan, four QRT zones have been created in New Capital circle, four in Pataliputra circle, three each in Kankarbagh and Bankipur circles, and two in Patna City circle, along with three in Azimabad circle.Officials said the arrangement covers all municipal wards and is designed to ensure faster response and better monitoring in waterlogging-prone areas. The municipal commissioner said effective drainage, prompt response and seamless coordination during the monsoon season would remain PMC’s top priority, with teams expected to stay on alert throughout the rainy period.
