
Maruti Suzuki’s domestic wholesales jumped 35%, while Mahindra and Tata Motors posted 50% and 59% growth, respectively, as most major automakers reported double-digit gains.

Driven by continued demand, new launches and positive sentiments in the market, passenger vehicle (PV) manufacturers reported double digit growth on the year-on-year (YoY) basis in their domestic wholesales (dispatches to dealers) in August, with industry sources saying total PV sales grew by 36.6 per cent YoY to around 4.50 lakh units as compared with 3.30 lakh units in August 2025.
Except, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, which reported a decline of 3 per cent YoY, all other manufacturers saw a healthy double digit growth in their numbers.
Market leader Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) reported a growth of 35 per cent YoY in its domestic dispatches to 1,76,971 units during the month as compared with 1,31,278 units in August 2025.

“There is optimism and for the ongoing fiscal, the expectation is 10 per cent growth, although in the second half the high base effect will kick in. Till now, we are having good tailwinds, and we don’t see any headwinds there. Yes, being the market leader, in order to take care of the increasing fuel prices, we diversified and we had the strategy of CNG. CNG portfolio is doing really well,” Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, MSIL, told reporters.
With the festive season already set in, the car makers said demand is expected to continue the momentum.
Similarly, Tata Motors, reported a growth 59 per cent YoY in its PV dispatches to 65,253 units during the month as compared with 41,001 units in the corresponding month last year.
Multi-utility vehicles maker, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) sold 59,257 vehicles in August, up 50 per cent YoY as compared with 39,399 units in the same month last year.
Subsidiaries of South Korean auto major, Hyundai Motor India and Kia India also reported double digit growth in their sales during the month.
“We continue to sustain strong growth momentum in FY2027…Our August domestic sales of 54,396 units, the highest-ever figure for any August month, reflect the popularity of Hyundai’s versatile product portfolio,”Tarun Garg, MD and CEO, HMIL, said.
‘Hector’ maker JSW MG Motor India said it has achieved 14 per cent YoY growth in August with 7,508 wholesale units as compared with 6,578 units in August 2025.
In the two-wheelers segment, market leader Hero MotoCorp reported a YoY growth of 4.4 per cent in its domestic sales to 5,42,305 units as compared with 5,19,139 units in August last year.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India reported a growth of 8 per cent YoY in its domestic wholesales to 5,17,329 units the previous month as compared with 4,81,021 units in the same month last year.
Similarly, ‘Jupiter’ scooter maker, TVS Motor Company reported a YoY growth of 18 per cent with sales of 4,33,796 units in August as against 3,68,862 units in August 2025.
Royal Enfield also reported a growth of 11 per cent YoY in its domestic wholesales to 1,14,204 units during the month as compared with 1,02,876 units in the corresponding month last year.
