Cyberfraud racket busted in city, 3 held

Patna: Patna Cyber Police have busted an alleged cyberfraud racket involved in digital arrest scams, financial fraud and online cheating, arresting three accused on Wednesday and recovering electronic devices and banking documents allegedly used in the crimes.According to police, the arrested men were identified as Gaurav Kumar of New Colony in Khagaul-Danapur, Adarsh Kumar of Transport Nagar and Aman Raj of Kumhrar. The trio was allegedly linked to an organised cybercrime network that targeted victims across the country.Patna Cyber DSP Sangeeta on Thursday said the accused were involved in multiple forms of cyberfraud and had allegedly defrauded people of crores of rupees in several states. Investigators also found complaints against them on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP).“During the investigation, police found several complaints against the accused on the NCRP. Technical surveillance and analysis of digital evidence helped investigators trace the suspects and establish their alleged links with the racket,” the DSP said.During the operation, police seized a car bearing a party flag, six phones, two laptops, three cheque books, two passbooks and five ATM cards. The seized devices and banking documents are being examined to trace financial transactions and identify other members of the network.Sangeeta said an FIR had been registered at Patna Cyber Police Station. The three accused were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody on Thursday. “Further investigation is underway to ascertain the scale of the racket and identify other persons allegedly involved in the fraud,” she added.
