Patna: A construction worker was shot dead while riding a motorcycle in Muzaffarpur district on Wednesday. The incident took place in Kolhua area under Ahiyapur police station area.The deceased, identified as Rakesh Kumar (30), a resident of Motipur police station area, had left his rented house on a motorcycle. While travelling along Chaud Road, he was intercepted by armed assailants, who opened fire, killing him on the spot. Police are investigating the case from the angles of a land dispute, personal enmity and recent altercations.On receiving information about the incident, SDPO (Town-II) Vinita Sinha, along with Ahiyapur police, rushed to the spot. The body was taken into custody and sent for postmortem.A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was also called to the scene.The victim’s family told police that Rakesh had been involved in a dispute with some people. According to them, he had a fight with some local youths a few months ago, following which police registered a case and sent him to jail. He had been released from jail four to five days ago.The family alleged that Rakesh was called out late on Tuesday night, after which he was shot dead. They claimed his body was later found on a motorcycle at a deserted spot.The SDPO said statements of the family members were being recorded. She said the deceased had a criminal record and that the family had alleged enmity with some local youths. However, no written complaint had been submitted so far. She added that the investigation was progressing from all angles and that the seized motorcycle belonged to a youth from Vaishali district.
