Bettiah: A woman who was separated from her family nine years ago, was reunited with her husband on Friday through the efforts Bettiah administration.The reunion took place in the presence of senior deputy collector-cum-nodal officer of the Sakhi One Stop Centre (OSC), Rochna Madri, after all legal and administrative formalities were completed. Their family members thanked the district administration and the OSC team for restoring their family. OSC is an initiative of district administration.OSC Centre Administrator Rashmi Kumari said the centre had received information from the OSC in Karnataka about a woman named Sushma, who could recall only her husband’s name and the name of her village.Following the lead, the Bettiah OSC contacted Gopalpur police station and verified her identity. In Feb 2026, her husband Manoj Giri, a resident of Vishambhara village under Sikta block in West Champaran, was called to the centre and connected with Sushma through a video call.The moment he saw her on the screen, Manoj identified her as his wife and requested the administration to bring her home safely.According to Manoj, the couple married on Feb 28, 2005. In 2017, Sushma suddenly left home with one of their children while she was pregnant. Despite extensive searches, the family could not trace her and eventually believed she was no longer alive.After identity verification, the Bettiah OSC coordinated with the state home for women in Udupi, Karnataka, and completed all legal procedures to bring Sushma back to West Champaran, where she was formally handed over to her husband.Officials also said that the couple’s two daughters are currently under the care of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Karnataka, and efforts are underway to bring them to West Champaran for reunion with their family.
