Timely completion of projects key task for new ECR GM

Patna: Newly appointed East Central Railway (ECR) general manager (GM) Dimpy Garg faces a challenging task as the zone is executing railway infrastructure projects worth around Rs 1 lakh crore in Bihar. Timely completion of these projects, along with improved passenger services and safety, will be among his key priorities.Garg took charge last week as several major projects are at different stages of implementation. These include new railway lines, gauge conversion, track strengthening and capacity augmentation works.Strengthening tracks and infrastructure to facilitate faster trains will be another priority. Track renewal, bridge strengthening and modern signalling systems are being given special attention to improve speed and connectivity.Passenger amenities will also remain a focus. At least 98 stations under ECR jurisdiction are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at a cost of Rs 3,287 crore. Ensuring timely completion without disrupting passenger convenience will be a key responsibility.The Bihar Daily Passengers’ Association said improving punctuality and increasing line capacity would be another challenge. Rising passenger and freight traffic has made removal of operational bottlenecks essential.Completing the third and fourth line projects along the DDU-Patna-Jhajha route, estimated to cost Rs 17,000 crore, will be another major task. Association members said successful completion of ongoing projects, including new terminals at Hardinge Park land and a new rail bridge near Mokama, would be key benchmarks of Garg’s tenure as ECR GM.
