Patna: The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) on Thursday arrested a junior engineer and two technician grade-III employees of the electricity department in Purnia for allegedly accepting a Rs 10,000 bribe for providing a domestic power connection.The accused were identified as junior engineer Bharat Malik and technicians Pankaj Kumar Mehta and Ashutosh Kumar Pandey.According to ADG Sudhanshu Kumar, the complainant alleged that Malik had demanded Rs 20,000-25,000, which was later negotiated to Rs 15,000 through Mehta. After Rs 5,000 had already been paid, the SVU laid a trap when the remaining Rs 10,000 was allegedly accepted through Ashutosh in the junior engineer’s office.All three were caught red-handed and taken into custody. An FIR has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigation is underway.
