Gorakhpur: The Purvanchal Sena on Monday submitted a memorandum at the commissioner’s office and launched a protest at Ambedkar Chowk in Gorakhpur, demanding strict punishment for the accused in the alleged rape of a six-year-old girl in Maharajganj district.According to the organisation, the incident took place on Sept 9 in a village under Purandarpur police station limits, where a 55-year-old man, identified as Mewalal, allegedly raped the minor. Police have arrested the accused and sent him to jail. The child is currently undergoing treatment at BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur.Purvanchal Sena state secretary Manjesh Kumar termed the incident a crime that had “shaken humanity” and called for speedy justice for the victim.In the memorandum submitted to the commissioner, the organisation demanded a fast-track trial and the maximum punishment permissible under law for the accused. It also sought comprehensive medical treatment and rehabilitation support for the victim. The organisation further demanded financial assistance of ₹1 crore for the child and her family, along with security and all necessary govt support to ensure their welfare.
