Pune: The city airport on Monday facilitated the transportation of a live human organ — heart — to Mumbai safely, demonstrating effective coordination among the airport authorities, airline, ground handling agency, security personnel and the medical team.“A non-scheduled flight operated by M/s Jhankar Aviation Pvt Ltd, using the aircraft VT-TIS, was arranged for the organ movement. The flight’s scheduled departure time from Pune was 4pm and its arrival time in Mumbai was approximately 4.30pm. The organ retrieved at Bharati Hospital, Pune, was to be transported to Sir H N Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai,” Pune airport director Santosh Dhoke said.Considering the critical nature of organ transplantation and the limited time available, the Pune airport ensured close coordination with all agencies concerned, and facilitated the movement of the medical team and the organ box to the aircraft, while maintaining the applicable aviation security and safety procedures, Dhoke said. The organ was packed carefully as per the protocols, he added.
