Patna Junction Metro work prompts traffic diversion

Patna: Traffic movement between Station Road Golambar and Dak Bungalow roundabout has been changed to facilitate construction of the Patna Junction Metro Station. Under the new arrangement, vehicles travelling from Patna Junction towards Dak Bungalow roundabout will use an alternative road developed inside the Buddha Smriti Park complex.The revised system came into effect on Tuesday night after officials inspected the alternative route. Deputy superintendent of traffic police-IV Pourush Agarwal, along with Patna Metro officials, reviewed the road and traffic arrangements before allowing vehicles to use the new route.“The diversion starts right from station roundabout and continues till Chandani Market. A two-lane road for vehicle movement in both directions has been created inside the park complex,” the DSP said.Traffic SP Sagar Kumar said the changes were being made around the Junction area to facilitate ongoing Metro construction. He appealed to motorists to follow the revised route and cooperate with traffic authorities.The Patna Junction Metro Station is expected to become the city’s key interchange with Metro services under Corridor I and Corridor II connecting there. Near Dak Bungalow roundabout, the two underground corridors will run parallel with a gap of around six metres.The corridor from Gandhi Maidan-Akashvani will reach the second-floor platform, around 11 to 12 metres below ground level. The corridor from Nehru Path will connect to the third-floor platform, approximately 23 to 24 metres underground. An underground subway is also planned to provide a direct connection between Patna Junction railway station and the Metro station.
