Patna: A 59-year-old man was allegedly killed after his son-in-law slit his throat while he was asleep outside his house in Samastipur district on Sunday night. The incident took place in Banghara Tola, Ward No. 7 of Rupouli panchayat under Musarigharari police station area over a dispute over the daughter’s vidaai. The victim, Biju Das, son of Sujan Das, was sleeping outside his house when he was allegedly attacked.Police reached the spot soon after receiving information, took the body into custody and sent it to Samastipur Sadar Hospital for postmortem. The crime spot was secured and evidence collected.According to Biju Das’s relative, Harishchandra Das, the victim had married his younger daughter to Dharmendra Das, a resident of Chandchaur village in Ujiyarpur police station area, about three to four years ago. The couple’s relationship had been strained, and Biju had recently brought his daughter back from her in-laws’ house, triggering a dispute between the two families.“Dharmendra was pressuring the family to send his wife back. Late on Sunday night, he allegedly slit Biju’s throat with a sharp weapon while he was sleeping outside the house and then fled,” Harishchandra said.Given the seriousness of the case, ASP (Sadar-1) Sanjay Kumar Pandey visited the spot along with teams from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the District Intelligence Unit. The teams collected forensic evidence, while police recorded statements of family members and questioned local residents.Pandey said preliminary inquiries revealed that the accused frequently quarrelled with his wife and was allegedly addicted to alcohol. “The victim’s family was unwilling to send the woman back because of the disputes. The accused was reportedly insisting on her vidaai, and this appears to have led to the murder,” he said. Police have launched raids to arrest the absconding accused.
