Patna: A 26-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband following a domestic dispute in Nalanda district on Friday, around a year after their marriage. The incident took place near Chauharmal Baba temple in Badi Pahadi under Laheri police station area. The deceased, identified as Rekha Kumari, wife of Saurabh Kumar, was originally from Punjab and worked with an orchestra troupe. Police said the accused husband has been arrested.According to family members, Rekha had recently gone to her parental home in Punjab and returned on Thursday. A dispute reportedly broke out between the couple on Friday. During the altercation, Saurabh allegedly hit Rekha on the head with a hammer, causing fatal injuries.Rekha’s mother-in-law, Shobha Devi, said the couple initially argued over an issue before the dispute escalated into a physical fight.“They started assaulting each other. During the fight, my son picked up a hammer lying nearby and struck Rekha on the head while trying to defend himself,” she said.Police reached the spot after receiving information and sent the body to Sadar Hospital for postmortem. The hammer was seized for forensic examination.Nalanda SP Hriday Kant inspected the crime scene and directed officers to investigate the matter.He said, “The accused husband has been arrested. Several details have emerged during his questioning. The body was handed over to the family after the postmortem. Police are investigating all aspects of the incident and gathering information from the family members and local residents.”Police said the exact circumstances surrounding Rekha’s death and the sequence of events leading to the fatal assault were being investigated.
