Patna: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, LoP in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Tuesday expressed grief over the loss of lives in the floods in Bihar and urged the govt and administration to expedite relief and rescue operations.Kharge said the loss of lives due to floods in Bihar was heartbreaking and sought the immediate launch of relief, rescue, medical assistance and rehabilitation efforts to ensure that aid reached affected families without delay. “I appeal to all Congress workers to step forward in the affected areas and provide every possible help to the people,” Kharge said in a social media post.While expressing sympathy with those affected by the floods, Rahul Gandhi urged the authorities to carry out relief and rescue operations promptly and ensure that essential aid reached affected families as soon as possible.Priyanka Gandhi said the news of the devastation caused by the floods in Bihar was extremely heartbreaking.“Lakhs of people in the state are affected by the floods. There has been a significant loss of lives and property. May God grant peace to the departed souls. My deepest condolences to the affected families,” she said.She also appealed to the govt to expedite relief and rescue operations so that assistance reached the affected people as soon as possible.The latest report of the disaster management department received on Tuesday said the floods had affected more than 49.71 lakh people in 15 districts so far. The state govt was running 1,042 community kitchens for affected villagers, it said.According to the report, around 4.12 lakh polythene sheets, about 77,800 dry ration packets and nearly 1,400 food packets had been distributed among the affected population. A total of 1,344 boats were being operated to facilitate evacuation and movement. Around 16,506 quintals of animal fodder had also been distributed, the report added.
