Patna: Muzaffarpur Police have made a major breakthrough in the investigation of the double murder of retired banker Ashok Kunwar (75) and his wife Neelam Devi (70) in Rambagh Chaudi locality under the Mithanpura police station limits. Based on a SIM card used during the crime, police have arrested a rickshaw puller and a SIM card seller during the cyber investigation.A separate FIR was registered against the two arrested persons at town police station in connection with the fake SIM card. The arrested rickshaw puller has been identified as Randhir Kumar and the SIM stall operator as Rakesh Kumar Gupta.The banker and his wife were killed in their house by some unknown miscreants on July 20.

On the evening of July 20, two youths who had taken a room on rent in Rambagh Chauri carried out the crime. Two days after taking the room, they slit the throats of Ashok and Neelam and fled. The motive behind the murder is still not clear. The manner of killing suggests it was done in extreme anger. Even after death, Ashok was stabbed repeatedly with a knife. No valuables are missing from the house, but the killers took away the keys to all locks. Cellphones of Ashok and his wife were also taken.So far, family members have not told police about any enmity or major property dispute. Bank account checks have also not revealed any major transactions so far.Town SHO Jaiprakash Singh said, “Randhir revealed that about two-three months ago, an unknown person had hired his rickshaw and went to a SIM seller stall. He lured Randhir in exchange for money to get his identity used in buying a SIM card. The SIM stall operator has also been arrested. Further investigation is underway.”
