Patna: Bihar Assembly Speaker PremKumar left Patna on Saturday to attend the 69thCommonwealthParliamentaryAssociation(CPA)Conference in Cape Town, South Africa, scheduled from Sept 13 to 18.The six-day conference will bring together presiding officers and parliamentary representatives from Commonwealth countries to deliberate on parliamentary democracy, good governance and emerging global challenges. Kumar is expected to share his views on parliamentary leadership, with a focus on strengthening legislative resilience for climate adaptation and disaster response.During the event, the Speaker will interact with parliamentary delegates from various countries and exchange experiences on democratic functioning and legislative practices.Following the Cape Town conference, Kumar will undertake official visits to Australia,NewZealandandtheMaldives. His itinerary includes Sydney from Sept 20 to 24, Auckland from Sept 24 to 27 and the Maldives from Sept 28 to Oct 1. The visits will include meetings with parliamentary leaders, interactions with lawmakers and engagements with members of the Indian community.Officials said the tour aims to strengthen inter-parliamentary ties and promote the exchange of experiences on legislative functioning and responses to global challenges. Bihar Assembly secretary-in charge SanjayKumarSingh will accompany him.
