Arun Govil, best known for playing Lord Ram in the iconic television adaptation of ‘Ramayana’, has taken on another important character from the epic. The actor will portray King Dashrath in Nitesh Tiwari‘s upcoming two-part movie ‘Ramayana’.The makers have now unveiled a new solo poster featuring Arun Govil as the King of Ayodhya. The first look gives audiences a glimpse of Arun Govil in his royal avatar.
Arun Govil’s new role in ‘Ramayana’
The poster presents Arun Govil as King Dashrath, the father of Lord Rama and ruler of Ayodhya. The makers shared Arun Govil’s new look on social media while announcing his character. Their post referred to his earlier association with Lord Ram before introducing his new role. The caption read: “He once brought Ram to life for a generation. Now, he returns to the world of Ramayana as the King of Ayodhya. Arun Govil as King Dashrath. ”
Ranbir Kapoor leads ensemble cast
‘Ramayana’ features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi as Sita. Yash will play Ravana, while Sunny Deol has been cast as Hanuman. Ravi Dubey will portray Lakshman in his film debut. The ensemble also includes Anupam Kher, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, Kunal Kapoor, Adinath Kothare, Indira Krishnan and Lara Dutta.Nitesh Tiwari is directing the movie and has co-written the screenplay with Shridhar Raghavan. The project was first announced in May 2017 as a live-action adaptation of Valmiki’s ‘Ramayana’. It was initially planned as a trilogy. After several years of development and script work, the makers restructured it into a two-part series under Nitesh Tiwari’s direction.
Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman join project
The music of ‘Ramayana’ will feature a collaboration between Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman. The project marks Hans Zimmer’s full-fledged debut in the Indian film industry. He had previously worked on a song for the original soundtrack of ‘Fateh’.‘Ramayana: Part 1’ is scheduled to release worldwide on 6 November 2026. The film is expected to arrive across multiple Indian languages and will also be presented in IMAX. Overall, anticipation levels are high for the epic film.
