New Delhi: Delhi Police’s crime branch has arrested a man wanted in a 2025 rioting and attempt-to-murder case in Alipur, nearly a year after he allegedly fled following a firing incident linked to a property dispute.DCP (Crime) Harsh Indora said, “The accused, Shantanu, a resident of Sonipat, Haryana, had been absconding since Oct 30 last year, when a group of 30-40 people allegedly gathered at a plot in Ramjanpur village and attacked a family during a dispute over ancestral property. Around 10-12 rounds were fired and several people were injured.”Police said the complainant had noticed some people breaking the lock of his 1,000-square-yard ancestral plot. When he and his family objected, they were allegedly assaulted. The situation escalated when a larger group arrived armed with sticks and rods and allegedly vandalised the complainant’s house.A case was registered at Alipur police station under provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Arms Act. While several accused, including Deepak and Sandeep, were arrested earlier, Shantanu remained absconding, police said.A crime branch team, led by Inspector Gulshan Yadav, received information that Shantanu would meet an associate near Prahlad Vihar in Shahbad Dairy. A trap was laid near Prahlad Vihar bus stand, and he was apprehended after a brief chase when he allegedly tried to flee on spotting the police team.During interrogation, Shantanu allegedly disclosed that he had been involved in criminal activities for several years. Police said he had earlier been arrested in two murder cases, one in Alipur and another in Kundli, Haryana. He was released from Sonipat jail in Aug last year before Ramjanpur incident.According to police, Shantanu has eight criminal cases registered against him, including cases of murder, attempt to murder and Arms Act offences.
