Rs10k for 1L views: Bihar to reward social media creators for govt scheme videos

Patna: From welfare schemes and development projects to the govt’s achievements, Bihar is now putting a price on the reach of its social media content. The state govt has decided to pay Rs 10,000 to empanelled social media content creators if a video linked to its welfare schemes, development projects or other achievements clocks one lakh views on social media platforms. The payment will be capped at Rs 1 lakh, payable once the content reaches 10 lakh views. The incentive, however, will come into effect only after the information and public relations department (IPRD) issues a notification in this regard. The state cabinet, chaired by CM Samrat Choudhary, approved the new policy for using social media platforms to promote govt welfare measures, development initiatives and achievements, besides framing incentives for content creators who take up such work.To facilitate the policy, the govt has amended the Bihar Social Media and Online Media Rules. Changes have been made to Rules 8(6), 11 and 11A of the Bihar Social Media and Online Rules, 2024, while three new provisions — 14A, 14B and 14C — have been added. The amendments also lay down conditions for creators seeking incentives for content based on govt schemes, development measures and achievements.Under the new provisions, social media content creators will first have to get themselves empanelled with the IPRD. The viewership of content uploaded on social media platforms will be assessed after 30 days.
