Bettiah: Police arrested three people and seized 162kg of ganja during a vehicle-checking drive under Balther police station area in West Champaran district on Thursday.The arrested accused were identified as Sabjat Mian (28) of Pipra Pati, Redil Alam (40) and Sugrim Prasad (35), both residents of Nakad Dehi under Bhangaha police station.Balther SHO O P Gupta said police had received a tip-off about a large consignment of ganja being transported through the area. Following the information, vehicle checks were intensified.“Acting on specific information, police stepped up vehicle checking in the area. During the operation, two vehicles were searched and 162kg of ganja concealed inside them was recovered,” Gupta said.The three accused were taken into custody and the seized contraband was confiscated.Police said an investigation is underway to establish the source of the consignment and its intended destination. Efforts are also being made to identify others allegedly involved in the smuggling network.
