Man shot dead at home in Samastipur, motive unclear

Patna: A 50-year-old man was shot three times in the head and killed at his home in Hasanpur locality of Samastipur, late Friday night. His family found him dead around 6am on Saturday, lying in a pool of blood near the entrance of the house.The deceased was identified as Gulzar Ahmed alias Mohd Shaheen, a resident of ward no. 13 of Keshora village under Paroria panchayat. The incident came to light in the morning, following which police reached the spot and launched an investigation.Rosera DSP Sanjay Kumar Sinha, Hasanpur SHO Sunil Kant and a police team inspected the crime spot. An FSL team was called to collect forensic evidence, while a dog squad was also brought in to assist the investigation.Police recovered two empty cartridges from the spot. The DSP said three rounds had been fired, adding that the motive for the murder had not yet been established. Police were gathering information from the deceased’s family and examining the circumstances surrounding the killing, he said.“The deceased’s mobile phone was seized and was being examined as part of the investigation. Police were also looking into several other angles,” the DSP said. The body was sent to a govt hospital for postmortem.According to family members, Mohd Shaheen had gone to a ‘chhathi’ feast in Behat village under Scindia police station area on Friday night. He returned home around 10pm and later slept alone near the entrance.His son, Mohammad Shadab Anwar, said the family had not heard any gunshots during the night despite Shaheen sleeping close to the main courtyard.“In the morning, when my grandfather and mother woke up and reached the entrance, they saw that my father had been shot in the head,” Shadab said.Samastipur SP Arvind Pratap Singh formed a special investigation team under the Rosera DSP to probe the murder. “The motive and identity of the accused responsible for the killing had not been established,” he said.
