Patna: Four people suffered burn injuries after acid was allegedly hurled during a dispute over a 13-dhur ancestral land plot at Mali Nagar under Chakmehsi police station area of Samastipur district on Wednesday evening. One of the injured, a youth, is in critical condition and has been referred to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). Police have registered an FIR against five persons and detained one suspect for questioning.The critically injured youth, identified as Praveen Narayan of Jagat Singhpur village, had accompanied his friend Manoj Tiwari to the village. Manoj alleged that the dispute stemmed from an ongoing conflict over ancestral land between his paternal aunt, Sanju Devi, and her co-sharer, Bindeshwar Thakur.According to him, a panchayat had allotted 13 dhur of land to Sanju Devi’s family, following which they started constructing a house on the plot. The house was partly built when the incident occurred.Manoj alleged that Bindeshwar Thakur, accompanied by family members, arrived at the construction site carrying acid in buckets, bottles and glasses and began throwing it at people present there.Praveen sustained severe burns after a bucket of acid was allegedly thrown on him, while Manoj suffered minor splashes. Sanju Devi and her husband, Dayanand Thakur, were also injured.The injured were rushed to a local hospital, from where Praveen was referred to DMCH, Darbhanga, due to the severity of his injuries.Based on Sanju Devi’s statement, police registered an FIR naming five accused, including Bindeshwar Thakur and his sons, Chandan Kumar and Shyam Kumar.Sadar SDPO-2 Sanjay Kumar said one suspect had been detained and was being questioned. “Preliminary investigation suggests the dispute was over ancestral land. Raids are underway to arrest the remaining accused,” he said.
