42 West Champaran mukhiyas leave for UP to study model panchayats

Bettiah: As part of an initiative by the panchayati raj department, a batch of 42 mukhiyas from West Champaran district left for Uttar Pradesh on Monday on a four-day exposure visit aimed at strengthening the administrative and functional capacities of elected panchayat representatives.Organised by the Bihar State Panchayat Resource Institute (BSPRI) under the National Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) for the financial year 2026-27, the programme will see the elected representatives visit model gram panchayats in Siddharthnagar district of Uttar Pradesh.The study tour, scheduled from July 20 to 23, began with the participants departing from the district collectorate premises at 10am. Deputy development commissioner and district panchayati raj officer jointly flagged off the vehicle and extended their best wishes to the delegates.District panchayati raj officer Saurabh Alok said the primary objective of the programme is to familiarise Bihar’s panchayat representatives with the functioning, development initiatives and innovations adopted by successful model gram panchayats in other states.During the visit, the mukhiyas will closely observe grassroots governance mechanisms, development projects and administrative practices implemented in various panchayats.The department believes the initiative will enable elected representatives to adopt innovative practices and development models suited to local needs in their respective areas, thereby helping transform village panchayats into stronger and more efficient institutions, he added.
