NEW DELHI: Schoolchildren in Sonia Vihar are facing a hazardous daily commute as waterlogging, mud and damaged stretches have made the Main 25-Foot Road and connecting Shani Bazar Road difficult to navigate.

The roads, used by students of three schools — two private and one government — have remained in poor condition for several years, residents said.Tinku Sharma, a resident, described the situation as a “severe civic infrastructure failure year after year”.A day earlier, some students, who called themselves Gen Alpha, joined residents in protesting against the broken and filthy condition of the road.

For parents, the poor state of the roads has become part of their children’s daily school routine.“Every second day, my kids come to school in slippers because their shoes get muddy,” said Anjali, a mother of two.
