Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad police on Wednesday registered four cases against office-bearers of Ganesh mandals and sound system operators for exceeding permissible decibel levels during processions held to celebrate the arrival of Ganapati on Ganesh Chaturthi on Sept 14.Two FIRs were registered with Pimpri police on Wednesday, while two others were registered by Nigdi police on Tuesday. The police seized music systems, loudspeakers, amplifiers, generators and vehicles in connection with the cases.An officer from Pimpri police said that on Sept 14, police teams found loud music being played during processions in the Dattanagar and Mohanagar areas of Chinchwad. The teams measured the sound levels and found them to be well above the permissible limits. The police also received complaints from several residents in the area.“We told the two mandals to stop playing loud music, but they continued,” the officer said.The police subsequently registered FIRs against the presidents of the two mandals and the sound system operators.Nigdi police also registered cases against two Ganesh mandals in the Yamunanagar area for allegedly playing loud music and causing nuisance to residents and affecting traffic movement.Pimpri Chinchwad police registered the cases under sections 223 (disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant), 270 (public nuisance) and 293 (continuance of nuisance after an injunction to discontinue) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
