Patna: Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) president Upendra Kushwaha has demanded cashless medical facilities for college and university teachers and employees in the state. The Rajya Sabha member has written a letter in this regard to CM Samrat Choudhary.RLM national general secretary and spokesperson Fazal Imam Malik said Kushwaha hailed the state govt’s decision, implemented through a health department resolution, to provide cashless medical facilities to serving and retired state employees, pensioners, and other eligible beneficiaries under the Bihar Government Health Scheme (BGHS) and demanded extending this scheme to higher education institutions.Former Union minister Kushwaha, in his letter, noted that currently, teachers, non-teaching staff, and retired pensioners associated with Bihar’s universities and their constituent colleges remain outside the scope of this scheme. “They are crucial pillars of the higher education system and have been performing educational and administrative duties under the state govt for years,” he stated.Kushwaha highlighted in his letter how many university employees and pensioners face financial hardships when seeking treatment for serious illnesses. He argued that extending cashless medical facilities under the health scheme to them would directly benefit thousands of serving employees and pensioners, thereby strengthening their sense of social security.In his letter, he urged the CM to consider the matter sympathetically and expand the scope of the govt’s health scheme to include teachers, non-teaching staff, and retired pensioners from all universities and constituent colleges in the state.He expressed confidence that the CM would take a swift decision on this matter.
