Patna: Jan Suraaj founder and Bankipur MLA Prashant Kishor on Sunday said the minority community must be concerned about its political participation and representation, asserting “merely following someone will not work”.He was speaking at a conference on political participation and representation of the minority community in Patna, organised by locals at Anjuman Islamia Hall in Sabzibagh. Kishor interacted with members of the community and discussed their political participation, representation and issues concerning the area.Kishor said the discussion also focused on the Muslim community’s participation in democracy, along with its concerns, expectations and aspirations.“Muslims should be concerned about their participation. If you want to put forward your views in a democracy and are concerned about your security, development and the future of your children, you have to participate in democracy. You have to bring your children into it. Merely following someone will not work,” he said.Kishor also took a dig at the RJD over its list of candidates for the MLC elections. He said the list appeared to be “less like an RJD list and more like a list of other parties”, alleging candidates were selected on the basis of money. On the proposal to rename Bakhtiyarpur as Nitishpur, Kishor said it was another sign that Bihar had a BJP govt, where there would be less discussion on development and more focus on changing names. On possible change in the name of JD(U) to Janata Dal Nitish, Kishor said the party could retain the name JD(U), become Janata Dal Nitish or return to the name Samata Party. “The important thing is that today’s Janata Dal is not being run by Nitish Kumar, but by Amit Shah,” he claimed.Jan Suraaj state president Manoj Bharti and other party functionaries were present at the event.
