Patna: Advocate general Satya Darshi Sanjay on Tuesday issued a direction to district magistrates and public prosecutors in 20 districts to expedite the legal process for withdrawing 64 FIRs lodged against students who participated in protests till 6pm on July 26.According to sources, the advocate general’s office has asked the district authorities concerned to initiate the legal procedure for implementing the Bihar govt’s decision to withdraw the cases. The FIRs, registered at police stations across 20 districts, involve more than 350 students, primarily in Patna, Saran and Siwan.Under the prescribed legal procedure, the district magistrate, representing the state govt, is required to move an application for withdrawal of the cases through the office of the district prosecution officer before the jurisdictional judicial magistrate or chief judicial magistrate.The court will decide on the applications after satisfying itself that the proposed withdrawal is in accordance with law and does not adversely affect public or national interest or other legal considerations.
