Varanasi: A reported abduction of a 19-year-old girl near a petrol pump in the Bhadwar area under Rohaniya police station turned out to be a family matter after police traced the vehicle seen in a viral video and found that the girl had been taken home by her parents to Baburi area of Chandauli district.The incident came to light on Friday when a video recorded by locals showing the girl being forcibly taken into a vehicle went viral on social media. Police began verification, traced the vehicle through its registration number using the e-challan application and identified its registered owner.ACP (Rohaniya) Awadhesh Vishwakarma said police obtained the mobile number of the registered owner and contacted him. It was found that the vehicle was linked to a person from a village in the Baburi area of Chandauli district.When policemen spoke to the car owner, it came to light that he was the father of the same girl who was being claimed to have been abducted. He told police that his daughter had been upset over a personal issue. She had left home with her boyfriend to reach Prayagraj. On learning about their presence in the Bhadwar area, her parents reached there and asked her to return home with them.However, she was unwilling to return home and insisted on staying with her friend. The girl’s family finally convinced her and brought her back in their car.The ACP said police later contacted the girl directly by phone. She stated that she was at home with her family, was safe and had no complaint or problem.Based on the verification, police found no evidence of an abduction. Officials said the prompt inquiry helped clarify the situation and prevent the spread of misleading information. They appealed to residents to rely on verified police updates before sharing sensitive videos online.
