Private shacks given till Oct 31 to register with Tourism dept
Shacks operating without registration will have to pay a penalty, extending upto Rs 1 lakh

Panaji: The tourism department has extended the deadline for submitting applications for registration or renewal of temporary shacks and huts/cottages on private properties for the 2026-27 tourist season until Oct 31. Registration certificates will remain valid until May 31 or the expiry of the applicable CRZ permission, whichever is earlier, said the department.“In view of the provisions of the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade (Amendment) Act, 2026, persons intending to operate a temporary shack/huts in a private property within the CRZ area as per CRZ Notification shall apply for registration,” said tourism director Kedar Naik.A private shack or beach cottage operator operating without proper registration will have to pay a penalty, which may extend to Rs 1 lakh.If the penalty is not paid within 30 days from the date of the order, a penalty of Rs 500 per day will be charged, and a delay beyond a month will see Rs 1,000 levied per day of the delay.“Failure to pay the penalty and interest shall result in recovery as arrears of land revenue, and the prescribed authority shall proceed to seal the business premises and order disconnection of water and electricity supply,” said Naik.A fine of Rs 10 lakh will be levied if the owner of the shack or beach hut damages or tampers with govt seal fixed on the cottage.
