AAI accelerates Birpur Airport project with new tender for infra development

Patna: The development of Birpur Airport in Kosi region has received a significant boost with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) issuing a tender worth Rs28.42 crore for the construction of key airside infrastructure. The project is being undertaken under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)-UDAN to improve air connectivity in the region.According to the officials, the tender covers the development of the runway, taxiway, apron and other essential airside facilities required to make Birpur Airport suitable for Code-2B category aircraft operations. The infrastructure upgrade is expected to enable the airport to handle larger aircraft under the prescribed operational standards.In addition to the airside works, another major component of the airport project has already progressed. A tender worth Rs36.38 crore, issued on March 10 this year, for the construction of a pre-fabricated terminal building, pre-engineered Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower and fire station and other airport buildings, has already been awarded to a contractor.With the latest tender, the total investment in the development of Birpur Airport has reached Rs64.80 crore.Officials said the project is aimed at strengthening air connectivity in the Kosi region, which has long faced transportation challenges. The upgraded airport is expected to improve regional accessibility, facilitate faster movement of passengers, and support economic activities in the area.The airport development is also expected to contribute to the social and economic growth of the Kosi region by improving connectivity, attracting investment and creating new opportunities for trade, tourism and employment once operational.
