Madhubani: Personnel of the 48th Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) arrested a woman smuggler and seized 267.8 litres of Nepalese liquor and beer during an anti-smuggling operation along the India-Nepal border in the early hours of Monday.Acting on a tip-off, SSB jawans deployed under the Pipraun Company launched a search operation around 4.25am. They spotted a group of women carrying sacks on their heads and crossing into Indian territory from Nepal.On noticing the SSB team, the women abandoned the sacks and attempted to flee back to Nepal. The alert personnel cordoned off the area and managed to apprehend one woman, while the others escaped across the border.A search of the eight sacks recovered from the spot led to the seizure of 876 bottles of Nepalese country liquor (300ml each), totalling 262.8 litres, and 10 cans of a Nepal-made beer brand (500ml each), amounting to 5 litres. The total seizure was 267.8 litres of liquor and beer.During preliminary questioning, the arrested woman admitted that the consignment was being smuggled from Nepal into India. She was identified as a resident of Sothgaon village under Harlakhi police station in Madhubani district.The seized liquor and the accused were handed over to the authorities concerned for further legal action.
